Located at 69° North above the Arctic Circle, Norway’s Lyngen Alps offer one of the most unique ski mountaineering experiences in the world. This dramatic range rises straight from the sea, delivering steep couloirs, glaciated summits, and big alpine faces that challenge and reward strong intermediate to advanced skiers. Few places on earth combine this level of terrain, scale, and raw beauty.
About the Guides
All our Guides are certified by the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides (ACMG) or equivalent associations internationally recognized through the IFMGA. Their rigorous training in avalanche safety, navigation, risk management, and client care ensures your backcountry adventure is safe, personalized, and unforgettable.
The Terrain
The terrain in the Lyngen Alps rises directly from the sea to glaciated peaks, offering steep couloirs, open alpine faces, and exceptional ski mountaineering. Objectives range from moderate touring lines to more demanding summits, allowing for progression throughout the week as conditions evolve. The ability to reposition the vessel efficiently opens access to a wider range of terrain zones, while daily decisions are shaped by weather, snowpack, and group energy — keeping the focus squarely on quality skiing.
When are the best conditions?
We prefer the Lyngen Alps from March through May, when a solid snowpack combines with nearly endless Arctic daylight. Long evenings allow you to ski well into the night, with summit views stretching across fjords and open ocean.
About the Boat
The MS Strønstad represents a meaningful step forward in how we operate ski and sail trips. Designed for longer voyages and more variable conditions, the vessel offers increased capacity (up to 12 guests), improved range, and greater comfort underway. With 10 onboard bathrooms, a dedicated crew including captain, chef, and host, and amenities such as a sauna, hot tub, and bar, the experience balances expedition capability with a high level of onboard comfort. Increased cruising speed (8–10 knots) allows us to access more distant zones efficiently, while improved anchoring and shore access expand where and how we operate.

Arrival Day
Tromsø harbour
MEETING TIME & PLACE IS 5PM AT THE DOCK
MEET LOCATION LINK
All members of the group will need to fly to the Tromsø international airport (TOS). The Tromsø Airport is very small and very simple to get around in. All signs are in english and people are friendly and helpful. Getting to the Dock is an easy, 15min Taxi ride from the Airport.
Storgalten
Nord-Lenangen
Wake up and pour yourself a cup of coffee. Eat breakfast and hear the briefing from the guide. We’ll begin with a risk-management briefing and a comprehensive rescue training session to prepare you for the week and build strong, practical backcountry skills. Today we ski Storgalten. While everyone else skis the west face, we continue across to the other side and ski the rarely visited east side getting picked up by boat on the east shores of the Lyngen Alps.

Lyngsedeit
Today we Dock in Lyngseidet. A really cool town that offers great skiing in all directions
Uløya
Hamnes
Waking up in Hamnnes on the Island of Uløya we ski one of the most classic mountains in the area. The views of the Lyngen Alps are the best on this 1100m decent to the ocean. From here we sail to Arnøya an island with a seasonal population of about 20.

What an amazing mountain Kågen is. We dock at the nearby town of Skjervoy.

Akkarvik
Another Classic view of the Lyngen Alps. This time from the North. This day has some cool adventuring at the summit. Ski down 1000m of powder or corn snow depending on the time of year for an early departure and much needed spa time.
Finnkroken
Ringvassøya
We dock in Finnkroken, a community out of time. There are houses that we can enter and see that have not been changed since the 1950’s when they were abandoned. It shows just how Northern Norwegians lived just after the war. The few locals that live there are proud to maintain this time capsule and gladly show it.
There are multiple ski objectives in this area that are very good in rough seas and bad, poor weather.
