GLACIER HIGHWAY

The Birthplace of Canadian Ski Mountaineering, Lake Louise.

In 1896 Philip Abbot fell and died on Mt Lefroy in Lake Louise. His death became the first recorded mountaineering fatality in North America. This initiated local Hotels to bring over Mountain Guides from the Swiss Alps to help keep their guests safe in the mountains. Little did they know that this would be the beginning of a legacy of professional Canadian Mountain Guiding and safety quality that has lasted to this day. Due to the rising popularity of the great Canadian mountains, the Canadian Pacific Railway built 3 luxury hotels allowing easy access via their railway. Banff, Lake Louise, and Rogers Pass became world class destinations for mountaineers and skiers around the world. read more about this history here

Our Glacier Road Trip package follows the route of Canadian Pacific Railway, starting in Banff and finishing in Revelstoke. We will ski classic descents around Banff, Lake Louise, and Rogers Pass. Cross glaciers, summit high peaks, and ski powder from the lift and from the roadside. This package is catered to intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders. Crampons, ice axe, harness and ropes may be tools that we use to achieve our objectives. On days when it is snowing heavily we can ski the long trees runs. On days when it's sunny and clear, maybe we summit a few peaks. The scenery in Lake Louise is world class and probably the most beautiful location in Canada. Skiing and snowboarding an area rich with history of adventure this road trip will be an experience we can guarantee you will never forget.

Mid March is the perfect time to ski this road trip. More stable weather and longer days give us a better opportunity to summit larger mountains and really enjoy the high alpine. Avalanche hazard is also easier to manage in the spring which is obviously an advantage.
