ANNAPURNA CIRCUIT

The Big loop

Annapurna is the main source of water the low lying valleys use to irrigate their crops. With it's massive glaciers, it's easy to see why. The name Annapurna itself, translated from Sanskirt mean, “full of food, and is also the Hindu Goddess of the Harvest. The Annapurna Massif is 55km long and contains no less than 30 different summits all over 6,000m and is surrounded by two valleys and the tropical Pokhara lake to the south. It’s main summit, Annapurna 1 (8,091m) was the first peak over 8,000m to be climbed.

We begin our trip in the ancient city of Kathmandu. We’ll experience the mix of religions and cultures as we visit the Monkey Temple, the Tibetan Stupa, Boudha, and sample our first Dal Bhat and Momo dumplings as our trekking permits are processed. The next day, we transfer to the trail head in Besisahar and begin our trek around Annapurna. Over the next two weeks we will steadily ascend our way around the massif, spinning prayer wheels, and visiting budhist temples as we ascend our way to the border with Tibetan Plateau, Thorung La. Our nights on the trail will be spent in Tea Houses, rustic lodges built by the very locals who have made the trails.

Fall is the best time for this Trek as the day time temperatures are comfortable and the monsoons have fully resided. The air is crisp and clear and the views of the peaks are at their best. Spring is also a great time for this trek as winter has subsided and the monsoons have not arrived.
